Is CA (Chartered Accountant) eligible for NTA NET with no post graduation degree ?

Hi Friends,
CA is a professional course where ICAI endorse a letter to it’s member which entitles the members to use CA as prefix to their name.
Many universities has given enough weight to CA and allowed them to do Ph.d on the basis of the same, but it can’t be said that they have recognised CA as post graduation degree, even if they did then only for the purpose of doing Ph.d and for that particular university only.
Now coming back to UGC NET - Since neither CA is equivalent to Post graduation nor UGC has came up with any official announcement that CAs can take UGC NET exam without post graduation degree hence you have to do post graduation separately to qualify for taking this exam.
Hope this helps !

Why to make your own handwritten notes ?

I personally believe that it’s very good if you are making your own notes for any exam for which you are going to appear.

Here are some advantages of making your own notes :
  1. You will be able to understand the concept easily
  2. Sometime while reading and memorizing the answer we miss the important aspect of that answer, if you will make your own notes then you are not going to miss anything
  3. Your own notes would help you to remember the concept for relatively long period
  4. You can refer 2–3 books while making your own notes which would help you out to prepare yourself well for the exam
  5. You don’t need to refer back to those 2–3 books multiple times while revising any concept as you will be having your own notes at one place
  6. While revising the syllabus you will find yourself in a very comfortable situation as you will be able to revise 3–4 times in a very shorter duration
Hope this Helps !!

Why to avoid referring to too many books ?

I would also suggest you not to read many books instead just choose one or two and stick to them because :
  1. Referring to too many books may sometime create confusion because of different approach followed to make student understand about a concept
  2. Referring to too many books can be time consuming & qualitative studies can be hampered
  3. You will find yourself in troublesome situation while revising the syllabus as you have to pick many books
  4. If you choose one/two books then your hold on the topics will be very good
  5. You will gain maximum confidence once you will be done with your revision on time
  6. You will have ample time to practice 10 years (which I believe is also most important for NET exam)

How many attempts are allowed for the CSIR-NET JRF exam?

There is no limit on number of attempts a student can take while appearing for JRF however CBSE/UGC has placed the limit on AGE for JRF only.
Please read the below conditions :

Are the topics mentioned in the syllabus of NTA/UGC NET enough or I need to revise all the topics again and over again?

Below is Unit-I of paper-I
Now let’s select any sub-unit/topic given under the Unit i.e. Methods of teaching. If you will take two/three books and compare what they have covered under this particular sub-unit then you will find that one book might be covering 13/14 bullet points while other will 15/16 points.
What I am trying to conclude is that UGC will never ask question outside of what they have covered under each sub-unit/topic but no one can comment what can be covered under each sub-unit/topic.
This is the reason why this exam is so difficult to conquer.

How to Practice NTA/UGC NET 10 years ?

I have read UGC NET Trueman and found the contents and MCQs that are given at the end of each unit are nice and answers given for those are 95% correct.
But one can’t say that trueman covers 100% of each topic because UGC expect us expert knowledge in each topic which per me is almost impossible. So I would prefer go for Trueman and also practice 10 years for Paper 2 and 3.
I would suggest not only practice 10 years but also write down important/new points in your notebook that you come across while practising 10 years. See below example for reference :
Example 1:
Now Suppose you know the correct match making of first three (a. - iii,b. - iv and c - i) but don’t know about forth one (d.) but since you will notice that your answer only matches with option (C) therefore you will circle the option (C) in OMR sheet. Now the learning from this question is that you have to make a note of “Negative Cross Elasticity relates to Complementary Goods”
Example 2:
Now in above question correct answer is (B). In coming year exam this question can be modified and asked in the below manner :
Question :Which Definition Describes appropriately “Descriptive Analysis”
Option A.
Option B.
Option C. The transformation of raw data into a form that will make them easy to understand and interpret, rearranging and manipulating data to generate information
Option D.
Therefore you have to make a note of the Descriptive Analysis definition in your notebook.
Example 3
Correct answer is (D).
This question can be asked in the coming year exams in the below manner :
Question : As per which Master circular Tier I capital includes PNCPS and IPDI
Option A. Prudential Norms on Capital Adequacy – Basel IV Framework
Option B.Prudential Norms on Capital Adequacy – Basel II Framework
Option C. Prudential Norms on Capital Adequacy – Basel I Framework
Option D. Prudential Norms on Capital Adequacy – Basel III Framework
Therefore you have to make a note about the “Prudential Norms on Capital Adequacy – Basel I Framework” circular in your notebook.
I used to do this exercise for my paper-I, II and III and found that around 20–30% questions are asked from the information given in previous years questions itself.
See below the excerpts of my notebook for the important points that I prepared for my exams:

Can NTA/UGC NET be cracked in first attempt ?

I want to give the answer in one word “Yes”, UGC NET exam can be cracked in very first attempt and believe me it’s not at all an insurmountable exam.
I have cracked UGC NET Dec-2015 exam with 63% in first attempt while doing my job and even my chartered Accountancy course in first attempt with more than 62% at each level (CPT, PCC and Final).
I am a working guy who is devoting 12–13 hours daily in commuting and office, therefore it was very difficult for me to give 2–3 hours daily for UGC NET.
Here is the plan that I followed to crack this giant :
  1. Studying while commuting : I live in Delhi and works in Noida hence it took around 3 to 4 hours daily in just commuting (To and fro). I planned why not to use my travelling time for studies. Therefore I started carrying my books and handwritten notes along with me while travelling. It was difficult for me to study during travelling at night therefore I started studying in morning only for around 1 and half hour on daily basis.
  2. Studying during Weekends : Yes I work in a Big MNC where I got off on Weekends (It’s the best part that I love about my company). I have made a time table for me of around 6 hours which was divided into 3 slots of 2 hours each. Each slot was allotted to the specific unit of either Paper I, II or III.
  3. Read again & again : Generally people ask me how were you able to crack all of your exams in very first attempt with first division. I gave them very simple answer just read your chapters again & again. You want believe but I never crammed anything in my life and instead I read my course many time (sometimes 7 times) so that it got printed on my mind. This trick is not useful only in your student life but will help you to churn out better in your professional life as well. (I am usually rewarded by my clients and office mates that I am the person who never forgets anything, but this is not true. It’s just that I read my mails many times and whenever someone tells me anything I keep discussing those with other friends.)
So go ahead and start preparing for your exam and I am pretty much sure you would be able to crack your exam in first attempt.
Best of luck !

Coaching vs. Self Studies

“Is it really important to go for coaching classes or one can crack this giant by self-study as well”
Here is the answer :
I generally got queries regarding whether we should opt for the coaching or can go for self-studies. My below answer would enable and act as guidelines for the students to choose between Coaching vs. Self-Study.
Moreover one has to fathom that self-study and coaching classes are not the sole criteria and deciding factor as far as success in professional examination is concerned. You may find various examples around you. There are many students who have cleared their exams quite easily just by doing self-study and some of the students who have taken coaching are still struggling or vice versa. So the main decisive factor is your honest efforts and commitment towards your preparation and nothing else. Let us discuss certain pre-conditions for self-study entirely based on my personal observation.
SELF-STUDY
Process/Structure of Self-study
ROLE OF TEACHERS/SENIORS IN SELF-STUDY
1. Proper guidance regarding how to start your study from your teacher or from some senior student is very much important rather I would say it is indispensable. Main reason behind this point is a lot of theory content or material in the study module and reference books is totally irrelevant from the exam point of view and only someone senior can guide you regarding this vital and energy saving point.
2. Have regular discussions with your friends or seniors regarding exam oriented topics which you simply failed to understand during self-study. As per my personal opinion this point is very important and plays a decisive role during self-study and gives you and the other person a very good chance to interact with each other in a prolific way.
3. Selection of correct reference books is another essential pre-condition for self-study. It is also advisable to collect all the reference books well in advance. Along with selection of reference books in advance it is also advisable to collect exam oriented notes from the very beginning and stick to them.
4. Kindly consider this point as a serious advice. During self-study most of the time you study alone without interaction to anyone else. So self-study may be a failure if you continue your prepare without interaction with anybody else. Remember a healthy and a light chit-chat can give your brain a much awaited relaxation and energy.
ROLE OF TIME MANAGEMENT IN SELF-STUDY
6. Another pre-condition for self-study is availability of time. Going for self-study may be a bit risky when there is lack of time like you are preparing for other professional course simultaneously or busy in your job etc. In other words ample amount of time to study and superior time management plays an important role in self-study.
7. Time Schedule : Study routine/Time Table also plays an important role during self-study. If you are not able to follow a set routine of study than in that case self-study may be a complete disaster as in self-study there is always a danger of lack of discipline. Main reason behind this probable lack of discipline is that there is no fear of coaching classes or tuition work and you are the sole ruler of your own wish. So in self-study 100% commitment and study routine is very essential.
TIME MANAGEMENT FOR SELF-STUDY THRU CHART
First of all we have to analyze how much time we need to devote daily considering the point that 4-5 months are enough for preparing for this exam. But before answering that we need to know the categories of students. Basically there exist three categories of students 1. Intelligent 2. Average 3. Below Average. Although there is no set parameters/definition as who can be put into which category but a student can very well define themselves basis on their own judgement as to which category applies to them.
  1. Intelligent Category: Student of this category should study 2-3 hours daily
  2. Average Category: Student of this category should study 4-5 hours daily
  3. Below Average Category: Student of this category should study 6-7 hours
Now let’s further analyze above three categories :
  1. Students who are in Job and want to prepare for NET/JRF : These students on an average can spend 3–4 hours daily (Depending on job as well) to prepare for NET but one has to give due consideration also to the work pressure that these students will be facing at their offices because it can make difficult for them to study even during these 3-4 hours.
  2. Students who are NOT in Job and dedicatedly preparing for NET/JRF : These students can give 6-7 hours daily easily after all of their work.
ANALYSIS
BE FOCUSED AND FIRM DURING SELF-STUDY AS SCOPE OF SELF-STUDY IS MUCH WIDER THAN WE USED IN COMMON PARLANCE
8. Let me tell you a very important thing rather a fact that coaching also involves self-study where as self-study does not involve coaching. This point is really easy to understand. Reason behind this observation is that in coaching classes only concepts are discussed once or twice. But you have to understand those concepts on your own by self-study only. A teacher can only teach you the method and discuss one or two examples but ultimate effort is required from your side to understand that method by practice of more questions connected with that particular method. So in this way we can say that coaching also involves self-study and has much wider scope than we normally understand in common usage and without understanding the true meaning and components of self-study it would be very difficult for anyone to clear any examination. Hope you all are agree with me w.r.t. this point/observation.
9. Next pre-condition for self-study is the thorough knowledge of your course content so you must do a small R&D about the course contents by going through the syllabus to figure out what is relevant and what is irrelevant.
10. Do analysis of your strength and weakness as you are the sole owner of your strength and weakness. Only you can utilize your strength and weakness in the best possible manner. You may analyse your strength in the following manner --- if you are more confident in solving practical problems as compare to your approach towards theory preparation and presentation then you must devote extra time to improve your theory preparation and presentation skills and vice versa.
COACHING CLASSES
1. Coaching is not a bad idea at all especially for certain demanding subjects. Reason behind this point of view is not only the technicalities involved in the subject but also the need and confidence desired for the future professional teaching.
2. One of the outstanding benefits of coaching is interaction or networking with an enormous group of people which is very essential in today’s competitive environment where networking is kind of indispensable. Further the proper guidance provided by the professional teachers/tutors along with exam oriented handouts is one of the major motives for students to go for coaching.
3. We must remember one thing while going for Self-study that Self-study is a bit time consuming process and a lot of R&D is involved in it to succeed. In other words Self-study demanded extra time to complete the course for which you have to prepare yourself mentally. Therefore if you find it difficult in devoting the time to self-studies then you can go for the coaching classes as the teacher will already be having the experience of teaching thousand of students and off-course their guidance can save your R&D time.
4. Here we must understand one thing very clearly that the above facilities involve a huge amount of financial burden as far as your pocket is concerned which may not be possible for every parent or student to bear. Another shortcoming/risk involved with coaching class is your interaction with faculty. If you failed to cope up with teaching style of faculty than there may be some serious problem.
SELF-STUDY
As mentioned above self-study is one of the essential components of coaching classes and no coaching can be successful without the input or flavor of self-study. One of the major benefits of self-study is that it is cost and time effective and makes you compatible for the preparation of any kind of professional course. Self-study also saves your energy which is required for coaching classes. Self-study is the real key which is directly connected to your confidence level.

Salary of NTA/CBSE/UGC NET qualified person

NTA/UGC NET is the eligibility exam which makes you eligible to apply for Assistant professor job throughout the country.
Any candidate who has passed NTA/UGC NET exam can apply either in Private or Government College, therefore I would like to give the answer in two categories :
  1. Candidate applying in Private college : I believe salary of a NTA/UGC NET cleared candidate who applies in a private college depends on the many factors. Take a look at the below example :
You would certainly say that chances are very much bright that if selected Mr. C would get higher salary than Mr. A or B. As per my experience salary ranges from INR 20,000 p.m. to INR 60,000 p.m. My cousin just got placed in one of the private college and she got INR 30,000 p.m. job.
2. Candidate applying in Government College : I have seen that government colleges have almost fixed pay scale which includes Basic Pay, DA, HRA, LTA etc. Generally salary ranges from INR 55,000 p.m. to 1,05,000 p.m. (In Hand Salary - Please see Edit 1)

Tips to clear NTA NET (Previously UGC NET)

I have cleared UGC NET (Commerce) in very first attempt therefore I can give you the general guidelines which should be followed to crack this exam.
I am sharing a very good answer which is written by Suresh Verm :
Paper - I preparation Tips :
  1. Understand the paper pattern thoroughly. Its important to answer 50 questions you know rather than answering more because if you answer more than 50 questions only the first 50 will be counted regardless if questions after the first 50 are answered correctly
  2. Prepare a study schedule including as many varied topics as you can and study accordingly
  3. Study basic concepts in mass communication for the communication topic
  4. Study each topic because 5 questions will definitely come from each topic
  5. Its important to study Teaching and Research in depth as the most difficult questions are usually in this section
  6. Revise basic mathematics concepts from class 12th, focusing mainly on understanding sets/patterns and improve approximation techniques
  7. Data Interpretation is generally based on statistics, so study statistics from graduation course to prepare
  8. Read any new material (not too long) and try summarizing it in a few points to practice for reading comprehension
  9. People and Environment should be prepared from Class 10th as well
  10. Information and Communication Technology and Higher Education System should be given sufficient time as both are material-heavy
  11. Use flash cards and charts for Information and Communication Technology
  12. Definitions, abbreviations and terminology are very important for Information and Communication Technology so make sure you know them well
  13. Study for Higher Education System Governance, Polity and Administration using flowcharts
  14. Practice as many sample papers/previous year papers as you can to gain speed and accuracy
  15. Remember to check the sample paper/previous paper soon after completing it so you can identify and improve on your weak areas
Mantras for Success in NTA NET/JRF (Earlier UGC-NET) by Suresh Verma
“While most of us are dreaming of success, winners wake up and work hard to achieve it.” -Anonymous
Seven Success Mantra’s to crack NTA-NET
1. Sound Planning and Preparation- NET requires concentration on the strategy to define your mission, objectives and deadlines. Benjamin Franklin rightly said, “By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.” The first and foremost step towards your success is to choose your goal honestly and sincerely. Take a bold decision and ask yourself why you want to become a teacher/ professor? Never choose NET as your ambition if there is a social circle pressure. The answer should come from the core of your heart. The next important step is to ask yourself when to start preparing and how to prepare. Preparation and background work must start by the first Semester/ Year of post graduation. Try to get comprehensive understanding about the exam process, its structure and various aspects related to the preparation.
2. Commitment– It means staying loyal to what you said or promised long after the mood you said it. For success, commitment gives you energy which fuels your drive to achieve instead of simply wishing. We all have this energy high or low. Always take the first bold step earliest which is mostly the hardest part in any mission/project. One of the fine ways is to promise yourself to get/do something nice when you succeed.
3. Zeal and Enthusiasm - Khalil Gibran once said: “ Zeal is a volcano, on the peak of which indecisiveness does not grow.” Take care that you should not attempt the NET as a trial. Your first attempt after masters ought to be the best attempt. This exam is all about the complete and deep study of the subject with lot of clarity. The exam can be performed well when you have gone through a number of references/authors and you are very strong in fundamentals with clarity.
4. Focus and concentration- For NET, you must have clarity of thought and the ability to stay focused and determined on your studies. This happens when you are aware about exactly what the Examination expects from you. Unlike your university examination, this examination is relative. You have to show better performance than other aspirants to get a final place in the merit list. This will happen when you keep your goal SMART i.e Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Research based and Time bound.
5. Time Management - Self control and proper time utilization is another important skill which makes you or breaks you. If you consider everything to be equally important and equally urgent, then you will experience more stress rather than success in your life. Lord Chesterfield rightly said, “Know the true value of time; snatch, seize, and enjoy every moment of it. No idleness, no laziness, no procrastination; Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today.”
6. Remain Healthy- In order to perform better, eat right, exercise and take right amount of sleep. If you give weight to health, you will discover secret of running stress free life and find time to relax. Home
7. Visualise Success- You can get anything you want if you have success instinct followed by action. Success starts with a vision. You can’t do anything that you cannot picture yourself doing. Famous psychologist Dr. Walter Scott rightly said, “Success or failure is caused more by mental attitudes than by mental capacities.”
So, your success in this examination depends on four D’s i.e Dedication, Determination, Discipline and Drill. Be ready to work tough like a sportsperson. Plan your syllabus distribution in a time period and try to work it out within your set schedule. Set weekly/monthly targets and at the end of the week, do a selfappraisal or critical evaluation exercise. You may find a lot of temptation to give up the attempt in NET examination but never quit. Here you keep in mind some words of Thomas Edison’s who said, “Many of life’s failures are those people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.”
